School-To-Careers Program

• Students have an opportunity to be part of Pre-Apprentice Programs leading to apprenticeships.
• Apprentices are professionals in training learning the basics of each craft.                            
• Apprentices receive their education at no cost to them, while also earning wages as they train.

The following areas of interest:

 OPERATING ENGINEERS

Operate the machines that are responsible for every phase of construction, such as cranes, bulldozers, front-end loaders, pile drivers and other large equipment that represents the tools of their trade.  They excavate the terrain, erect steel structures, transport heavy material around building sites and execute every stage of road, tunnel and bridge construction.

IRONWORKERS

The ironworker trade contains four skill areas: structural, reinforced steel, ornamental, rigging.  It is a labor demand occupation that requires high skill and provides high wages and benefits.

LABORERS

The construction craft laborers are the most diverse and versatile trade professionals in the construction industry.  The laborer’s skills are multifaceted and they participate in conjunction with other trades in every type of project.  They operate pipe-lying machines and use computers and other input devices such as lasers and transits.  The laborer is also an expert at demolition and excavation. 

CARPENTERS

The New Jersey Carpenter Contractor Trust (NJCCT) is the labor management trust established by the Building Contractors Association of New Jersey, Drywall and Interior Systems Contractors Association, Associated General Contractors of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Regional Council of Carpenters. The trust was created to preserve, identify and expand employment opportunities for Union Carpenters and their employers through industry outreach efforts.   Youth Transition to Work (YTTW) Grant 

A partnership with the New Jersey Department of Labor and the Construction Industry Advancement Program (CIAP) which promotes apprenticeship programs makes this opportunity possible.
